My first full-time role was as a CAD draftsman for an earth-moving equipment company, which I held for two years. I then worked for a company dealing with turbine coolers and heat exchangers, where I was offered the role of environmental coordinator, health and safety advisor. Throughout my previous roles working in such mechanically-dependent companies, everyone was aware of the risks involved in the manufacture of the equipment. I was just 'guided' into the role, as I found I had an interest in health and safety law and its application to my company. I was given some formal training in the field and found myself being consulted whenever health and safety issues arose.
