The Oil-storage Terminal

Having recently acquired an oil-storage terminal in Ipswich, recycled-oil supplier Eco Oil decided to undertake a HAC study of the site. Its decision to carry out such a study was made more pressing by the fact that the site was in a state of disrepair, with the company in the process of making a number of site improvements, including the installation of a steam boiler and de-watering facility. The company collects material, such as heavy fuel oil or oil from industrial processes, and blends it to produce a light fuel oil. Materials used in the blending process, which takes place in allocated tanks within the tank farm, may be flammable or nonflammable. Heavier oils may be transported while hot (over 40℃). However, to remove solids and water, they will require heating to temperatures as high as 80℃, which is above the flash point of the materials concerned.
