CAMPAIGNING FOR NURSES

As a professional union, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has been at the forefront of many campaigns to improve the working environment and conditions for its 400,000 members. Over the years, its national health and safety committee, made up of nurses from across the UK, has championed a number of causes. The College was one of the first organisations to highlight the risks of glutaraldehyde, a potent asthmagen used to sterilise medical equipment, and powdered latex gloves -both of which have been at the forefront of HSE COSHH inspection regimes in the health service.
