Keep the celebrations on ice?

Having received the SHPIus newsletter (dated 19 October), I am concerned that too much focus is being given to the SHP IOSH Awards. Shouldn't our focus be on the "real" issues that matter to safety and health practitioners and the people we advise and represent on a daily basis? I appreciate we should congratulate individual achievement and learning, but shouldn't more time be spent on researching issues, such as: 1. the increase in fatalities, injuries and RIDDORs in the workplace; 2. the 'attacks' on existing legislation, such as RIDDOR, and how such regulations are seen as a "burden" on companies.
