Counting the costs

For criminal prosecutions where proceedings start after 1 October 2012 the regime for the recovery of costs of acquitted, privately-paying defendants has dramatically changed. This applies to health and safety, as well as environmental prosecutions. The upshot of the change is that, even for the innocent, there will be a price to be paid.
