Fresh evidence needed to reopen blacklisting inquiry, insists Cable

The Government says it will not carry out a full investigation into the blacklisting scandal unless it receives new evidence that the now-illegal practice is ongoing, adding that current laws and penalties in this area are sufficient. Further revelations into the discovery, in 2009, of a clandestine construction-industry blacklist compiled by the Consulting Association - including evidence of missed opportunities by the previous Labour Government to investigate the problem and allegations of union collusion with employers - have increased speculation that the practice might exist to this day, and may have occurred on major public-sector projects, such as the Olympics.
