Jobsworths hijack 'health and safety'

Jobsworths have hijacked the phrase 'health and safety' to use as an excuse for ridiculous bans on activities, said IOSH after a geographical spread of ill-founded media stories. Officials and managers are putting a stop to events because of concerns that have nothing to do with the enforcement of health and safety law, such as compensation claims, insurance costs and a lack of funds. Now, IOSH is urging the public to challenge apparently daft bureaucratic decisions made in the name of health and safety. Britain's workplace safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive, has analysed the national spread of reports put to its Myth Busters Challenge Panel - set up to clamp down on bogus health and safety excuses -and has published a myths map.
