摘要

A new technique of identifying thunderstorms and assessing their intensity from synchronous information from satellite microwave and IR-radiometers is considered. The technique is based on the quantitative parameters of cloudiness, hail in clouds, and shower precipitation intensity, which are typical of thunderstorm regions and can be calculated from satellite information. The results of diagnosis of individual thunderstorm situations in the summer of 2003 over European Russia are analyzed. Specific examples demonstrate that diagnosis of thunderstorms from satellite information does not contradict the results of their observation at ground-based stations and essentially supplements these data in the regions where the observational network is absent or sparse.
