CATASTROPHIC FLOOD IN THE TEREK DELTA IN JUNE-JULY 2002

Conditions of formation of a catastrophic flood in the Terek delta in 2002 are considered. A synoptic situation that caused heavy rains in the Terek basin is described. The results of complex monitoring of the flood are presented, including surface observations at the network of hydrologic stations, operational analysis of remote sensing data, and reconnaissance of the state of the Terek delta in a low-water period. Runoff losses in the main arm of the Terek delta and the dynamics of flooded areas in the delta during the catastrophic flood are estimated.
