Nobody in the Czech Republic did not expect that 5 years after disastrous flood in Northern and Southern Moravia will be stroked large part of Southern, Eastern and Central Bohemia so called "1000 years flood" again. Like 5 years ago the consequence and losses were for Czech Republic tragic. Official estimates of expressible losses according August 2002 floods are nearly 2,5 billion US $. The possibilities of using of remotely sensed data in the course of heavy floods 1997 in Czech Republic were very restricted (only Radarsat images from the time of flood peak in northern part Moravia). In comparison with 1997 the administrative and crisis staff had for operative use extensive information about progress of flood in time (near real-time data from programmable satellite Radarsat, data from optical satellite systems such as SPOT4-5, Ikonos and QuickBird resp. For the needs of interpretation of course and consequences of flood was realised aerial monitoring of the catchment of overflowed rivers including inundated regions. The contribution refers as about heavy flood reasons and effects as about progressive development of use of remote sensing for flood management support in the Czech Republic during last 5 years.
