Transport Canada Rolls Out Safety Management Systems Plan For Civil Aviation

Throughout the industrial world in general, and in the aviation industry specifically, much attention has been focused in recent years on the concept of safety management systems (SMS). Australia has implemented an SMS program for civil aviation, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has incorporated SMS into the operations of its Air Traffic Organization and there is a great deal of activity on SMS in the United Kingdom, the International Civil Aviation Organization and throughout Europe. Right now, however, the SMS spotlight is focusing on Canada as it rolls out its own major SMS initiative for its civil aviation industry.
