Welcome to the fifth annual Critical Trends in the U.S. Aggregate Industry, presented by Rock Products. As in previous years, our 2008 survey is designed to provide you with information that you can use to run your business more efficiently. This year, we are continuing the trending data and including results from 2007 and 2008 where the data was available. As was done last year, this year's critical trends survey was sent to a statistically representative, randomly selected segment of Rock Products subscribers.rnOur response rate was 7.8%. As for annual production in the aggregate industry, we saw only minor changes. This year, 30% of our respondents were from companies producing more than 2.5 million tons of aggregate per year, compared to 34% last year. Also, the percentage of those producing less than 500,000 tons per year was almost identical. As for the range of aggregate sites throughout the nation, those who reported having operations in more than 15 states decreased from 25% to 17%.
