The low noise refrigerated trailersare part of Sainsbury's programme to reduce nighttime noise at its stores, a programme that began over 12 months ago with trials at stores in Doncaster and Wandsworth. About 30% of Sainsbury's stores are covered by local authority night restrictions or involved in a 'good neighbour' initiative. The engineering controller at Sainsbury's, Gary King, says: 'We worked closely with the Noise Abatement Society during the trial, which led to us winning its 2007 innovation award.
