Technical Note: a framework for demonstrating that road performance meets community expectations

This Technical Note summarises the findings of a recent study reported in Tsolakis and Thoresen(1998) The aim of this study was to develop a framework which describes the relationships between the performance of the road system and community benefits and expectations. Performance indicators can play the role of an appropriate link between outcomes that society wants and supply of road products and services. The performance outcome dimensions developed by Austroads (that is, economic, social, safety and environmental) are used in the evaluation of selected performance indicators.
