According to Isaac Newtown, each action creates an equal and op posite reaction, and in the case of rifles this means that when a bullet leaves the muzzle there's going to be recoil. Recoil oftentimes affects shooters more than we admit, and long shooting sessions with hard recoiling rifles does not "train" you to shoot big guns.
