The.300 Weatherby was developed during the Second World War by blowing out the .300 H&H Magnum and applying Weatherby's trademark double-radiused shoulder. The results were spectacular, launching 180-grain bullets over 3,100 fps and redefining the concept of a high-velocity, long range cartridge capable of taking all but the largest game. In an era when most hunters were still carrying .30-40 Krags and .30-30s, the Weatherby rifle was a real show stopper. But Roy's .300 was not perfect. Recoil was unpleasant, and the bullets available at the time weren't built to hyper-velocity standards. With today's modern ammo, however, the .300 Weatherby is a long-range rifle par excellence.
