Testifying to the burgeoning popularity of its subject, Tourism and Recreation Developmentby Manuel Baud-Bovy and Fred Lawson was one of the RIBA Library's most heavily borrowed books in the late 1970s. It was at this time that Vilamoura, the holiday village on the Algarve by the Eric Lyons Cunningham Partnership, was in train; while France was greatly expanding its tourist facilities with new developments such as that at Port Grimaud and along the Languedoc-Roussillon shore line. The latter area was first earmarked for development in 1953, but it was only in 1962 that eight architects including Jean Bahadur were invited to prepare plans for six new resorts.
