Given how many huge old industrial buildings are crying out for new uses worldwide, it's surprising that more are not tackled by mainstream hoteliers. Something of the potential of the type is shown by the new Andel's Hotel in Lodz, Poland. This is in part of the vast textile works built in the second half of the 19th century by industrialist Izrael Poznanski - to be exact, the spinning mill of 1878, which at its peak housed 80,000 steam-driven spindles. It was nationalised under the communist regime after the Second World War.
