The proposed National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) will be an important plank in the government's planning reforms, along with the localism bill. The NPPF will replace the entire current set of Planning Policy Statements (PPS) and Planning Policy Guidance (PPG) with a single integrated document. For the time being, however, this will not be integrated with the new national policy statements on infrastructure. Focussed and strategic The new framework is supposed to be short, focussed and strategic, allowing local authorities to flesh out detail within their own policies as they see fit, in accordance with the precepts of localism (but within the confines of the priorities set by the government).
