Sustainable, flexible, versatile... and it's all Grown in Britain

British woodlands produce versatile and sustainable timber, and it's wonderful to see it celebrated through the Wood Awards. Almost. 20% of the shortlisted projects in these awards make use of home grown material, demonstrating the diversity of products it can supply. The UK's 3m ha of coniferous and broadleaved woodland supply numerous markets - including construction timber, furniture, joinery, paper, panel products, woodfuel and crafts. Our woodland area and wood production continues to grow, and recent softwood forecasts estimate average availability of 16.5 million m5 per annum over the next 25 years. This is not only a resource which supports a globally competitive processing sector, but one which also sequesters increasing volumes of carbon.
