20 Years of Transition in Central and Eastern Europe: Money, Banking and Financial Markets

This special issue of the Review of International Economics includes 10 selected papers from a conference on 20 Years of Transition in Central and Eastern Europe: Money, Banking and Financial Markets, held in September 2009 at London Metropolitan Business School in London. After 20 years of transition, researchers are now in a much better position to analyze this process and apply a normative approach to establish whether there are any remaining obstacles in this region to completing the transition to market economies. The topics of the selected papers range from economic growth and crises to monetary and exchange rate policy as well as the integration of financial markets in transition economies. All contributions aim to shed light on the changes undergone and the policy challenges faced by the transition economies in the last 20 years.
