Technology Development Through Quality Engineering—An approach to improving development work efficiency and substantially shortening development lead times—

"Quality Engineering" is an innovative development methodology pioneered by Dr. Genichi Taguchi. The discipline is generally referred to globally as the "Taguchi method" or "Robust Engineering." The objective of Quality Engineering is to improve development work efficiency and substantially shorten development lead time. It provides rational and efficient methods for making evaluations and implementing improvements to achieve that objective. This paper describes the role of Quality Engineering in technology development, discusses the advanced and unique characteristics of the concept of Quality Engineering, and also presents several examples of new evaluation methods proposed recently.
