摘要

This paper addresses our in-situ SEM study of a ceramics-to-metal sliding-surface seizure mechanism that has revealed, for the first time, that voids in ceramics surface prompt seizures. Based on this, low-superficial-void-ratio silicon nitride (Si3N4) has been developed and employed, since 1999, as a material for volume production of the common-rail type fuel injection pump roller. This material meets the ever-increasing high fuel-injection pressure requirement.
