A novel electro-thermal-mechanical coupled simulation technique for inverter systems of hybrid vehicles (HVs) has been developed based on circuit simulators. This technique involves modeling and combining models of a motor, motor controller, interconnections, power semiconductor devices and their driver circuits, smoothing capacitors and thermal circuits of power semiconductor packages. The same technique has been used to optimize inverter system design, resulting in a significant improvement in the acceleration performance of HVs.
