Cool Cities or Class Analysis: Exploring Popular Consent (?) to Neoliberal Domination and Exploitation

Recent economic and social restructurings have produced increased economic inequalities and authoritarian governmental interventions within the United States with seemingly little organized opposition. Drawing upon six years of ethnographic research in Michigan, this paper explores the classic Marxist question of how we come to understand how and why human subjects respond to inequities in particular ways while other possible resistance strategies are marginalized.
