HDPE bottle recycling: how stands the nation?

Plastics have an undeserved reputation for being difficult to recycle. Hundreds, if not thousands, of different plastic compounds are used for manufacturing products. While the Society of the Plastic Industry (Washington) developed its famous resin identification code for six main bottle resin types, 96 percent of the resin sold for bottles is either #1 PET (polyethylene terephthalate) or #2 HDPE (high density polyethylene). These bottles are plastics recycling success stories.
