Many corporations pursue innovative new product development and commit significant funding to complex projects while only weakly engaging with risk analytics. Through our interviews we found that although the use of risk analytics to inform decision-making was valued, its use was unsystematic. Those few organizations that reported systematically applying risk analytics cited leadership vision and commitment to its use across the organization as reasons for their success. Leadership's specific role in supporting the implementation of risk analytics should be the basis for follow-on work. Further studies should explore the impact of leaders' embrace of risk analytics and how the use of the appropriate risk analytics tools impact project outcomes.
