Although gender equality has become an important factor in company recruiting, research indicates that a gap still exists at the higher levels of technology leadership. Blatant discrimination is no longer a widespread problem, but "perceptions about the genders still exist in people's minds and express themselves in very subtle ways," said Terri Morse, program director of external technical affiliations at the Boeing Company.
