Styrenated poly(esteramide) resins as vehicles for industrial coatings

Poly(esteramide) resins have been prepared using non-traditional argemone oil (Argemone maxicana) and dehydrated castor oil (DCO). These resins have been styrenated in varying poly(esteramide)/styrene ratio by post-styrenation technique, using benzoyl peroxide as catalyst. Various film properties of these styrenated resins, both air-dried and baked, have been studied. It is found that poly(esteramide) prepared from above mentioned oils can be styrenated in conventional manner and that, the styrenation significantly improves air drying as well as performance properties of the film.
