The simplest installation of a fuel cell in a commercial aircraft is the replacement of the APU. Fuel cell for forward propulsion require new aircraft architectures. APU replacement is feasible in new variants of e.g. legacy aircraft. It will typically involve LH storage tank placed in the location of the current APU, and the fuel cells is typically considered to be placed in or near the aft electronics bay, see Fig. 1.
