Inexpensive hard spherical alloy particles as shot blasting media for industrial applications

The present disclosure proposes the use of AlFeSi-based alloys (general composition: Al: 35 - 50 wt.%; Fe: 50 - 65 wt.%, Si: 0.5 - 5 wt.%. other minor elements B. C. Ce. Co, Cr. Hf. Mn, Mo, Nb, Ni, Re. Ta, Ti, V, W, Y. or Zr: 0.5 - 5 wt.%) as new hard media (Vicker's hardness number: -750) for shot blasting process. Fig. 1 shows spherical alloy particles (1) suitable for use as the shot blasting media (2) can be manufactured by techniques known in the field such as centrifugal atomization and gas/water atomization.
