JOUNCE BUMPER WITH PROTUBERANCES

This is a photograph of an automotive suspension jounce bumper made of thermoplastic polyester elastomer, for example a copolyetherester having PBT hard segments and PTMEG soft segments, or polypropylene oxide soft segments. Its design comprises 3 bellows. The number of bellows can be less or more than three. Some bellows exhibit molded-in protuberances. Their location and shape are specifically designed to allow an easy removal for the mold cavity. The role of these protuberances is to reduce noise when peaks are in contact with each other under certain level of compression force. Under high load the peaks are in tight contact. When load is released the contact is suddenly removed and some air can enter inside the bellow at high speed creating a sudden change of air pressure. This change of air pressure can generate noise or a sound.
