This invention proposes methods for disabling non-responsive remote vehicles by providing an accessible interface for law enforcement officials to command a remote vehicle to perform an e-.stop (by disconnecting remote vehicle drivetrain functions) or execute a minimal risk condition maneuver. An automated vehicle that has been compromised by a cyber-attack could lead to societal danger and mechanisms are needed for authorities to disable such vehicles. The following methods are proposed: Electrical prongs projected by a police vehicle into the bumper of a subject vehicle establish contact with a conductive element inside the bumper and trigger a relay that initiates an e-stop. Mechanical switch installed into the rear bumper of the vehicle and activated upon physical contact between a police vehicle and a subject vehicle. Modulated radar signal interface that activates an e-stop/minimal risk condition on subject vehicle. In each implementation, the subject vehicle will respond by disconnecting powertrain functions, initiating a vehicle slowdown or executing a minimal risk condition that safely brings the subject vehicle to a stop.
