Debate is brewing over biofuels policy ahead of June's G8 summit in Northern Ireland. A report by anti-poverty group ActionAid has stirred growing calls for the 'Group of 8' wealthiest nations (Canada, Russia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US) to reconsider their biofuel policies. ActionAid has highlighted concerns that the EU's 10% renewable fuel target is increasing the use of biofuels made from crops that could be used for food, driving up prices and giving rise to agricultural practices that emit more greenhouses gases.
