Latin America is primarily a least-cost driven generation market focused on tapping hydro resources and building thermal plants. However, the region is set to become a global wind powerhouse in the coming decade as a market of more than 40 GW of total installed wind capacity will emerge by 2025, that at least is the forecast from IHS Emerging Energy Research in a recent report. They conclude that such growth will be led by an increasing regional push to incorporate renewables to diversify supply, supported by the project development market's maturation, and wind's decline in costs through local manufacturing.
