Resources for Teaching About the Americas: (RETANet)

Latin America is an increasingly important part of the global economy and a popular destination for study abroad. It is also the home of delicious foods, ancient storied cultures, and complex histories. Teaching students about this region is made much easier through this website from the University of New Mexico (UNM). Resources for Teaching About the Americas (RETANet) was started in 1994, a product of the Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) at UNM and the UNM Latin America Data Base (LADB). Partially supported by the US Department of Education, the lesson plans, news-centered curriculum, thematic study plans and virtual book club resources are free to everyone. Teachers, who can be overwhelmed by the many responsibilities they face, can benefit by ready-made lessons that allow them to share the rich heritage of Latin America with K-12 audiences.
