Britain's Butterflies: A Field Guide to the Butterflies of Britain and Ireland (3rd edition)

This guide covers a total of 59 species of butterfly that breed regularly in Britain and Ireland plus four former breeders, eleven rare migrants and one species of unknown status. This third edition comes only five years since the second edition. The authors point out that this is due to two main events: one butterfly was wrongly named (Real's Wood White has had its name changed to Cryptic Wood White after DNA analysis) and another appeared again after more than 50 years - the Scarce Tortoiseshell in 2014 after an unusual migratory movement from Eastern Europe. With the most likely new arrival as a breeding species the Map butterfly, this now also has a full species account. Hence this third edition.
