The networking world has always had a tendency to get carried away with new trends and technologies. Over time the forms of and ideas about communication have evolved through the continuing progression of technology. Communication technology uses channels to transmit information either over a physical medium (such as signal cables), or in the form of electromagnetic waves. A revolution in wireless communication began in the first decade of the 20th century. The configuration of a centralized computer or mainframe with remote dumb terminals remained popular throughout the 1950s. Telecommunication has a significant social, cultural and economic impact on modern society. The role of telecommunications in social relations has become increasingly important. Recent Advances in Communications and Networking Technology describes a sampling of technologies of various types, by using a tutorial approach as well as research papers with new contributions beyond the state of the art.
