RECENT PROGRESS on new-built BR Standard 4-6-2 72010 Hengist has seen a lot of time being spent measuring and checking the frames. 'Measure twice, cut once' as the adage goes. In particular the team has thoroughly checked the hornguides to make sure there is sufficient material to machine. Having established that these were correct, drilling and bolting of the frame plates started at Sheffield-based engineering firm CTL Seal; where the frames are being erected. A magnetic base drill is clamped to the frame plates, with a number of drilling processes being carried out before frame bolts are fitted.
