A DIESEL gala is planned at the North Tyneside Railway on September 28/29, with a Gateshead TMD theme to commemorate the Class 03 and 08s based at the depot in the 1970s and 1980s. The star of the event will be 03078, now in BR blue. It will be working with a match wagon for the first time in preservation, replicating a common practice with these small shunters. The line's resident 08915 will be renumbered to 08008 to replicate its scrapped classmate, which was withdrawn from Gateshead in November 1983.
