Govia's existing Southeastern franchise is to be extended for a further 12 weeks. A new franchise was due to start on April l,but has been deferred to June 23. The Department for Transport was expected to announce the winner of the new franchise fast autumn, but this was deferred until the New Year. Govia has held the franchise since April 2006, with directaward arrangements in place since October 2014. As well as the incumbent, shortlisted bidders for the new deal are Stagecoach in a joint venture with Alstom, andAbellio in a joint venture with East Japan Railway and Mitsui.
