A testing programme for 850 Lord Nelson has been agreed following detailed examination of its boiler after several firebox stays sheared. No major structural damage to the boiler has been found and there are no broken stays. Boilersmith John Glaze has agreed an eight-stage programme for the locomotive to ensure its suitability for future operation. NRM Head of Knowledge and Collections Helen Ashby said: "Naturally we can only proceed from one stage to the next once it has proved successful with no further major leakages in the boiler.
