The prolonged spell of dry weather that was enjoyed by most of the country throughout the second half of April and into the first week in May brought a welcome increase in passenger numbers to several heritage lines around the country. Among these the West Somerset Railway, with its proximity to the seaside and predominantly tourist visitor base, was particularly fortunate. WSR General Manager Paul Conibeare commented: "With 95% of our traffic in the summer months coming from holidaymakers and the like, a spell of good weather like this so early in the season has really got us off to a good start. The late Easter holiday and extra bank holiday for the Royal Wedding have certainly helped as well - we're having to operate eight- and nine-coach trains even mid-week to cope with the passenger numbers!"
