A lack of available steam locomotives caused unwelcome problems at several railways as the summer season continued into through June and into July with the Severn Valley Railway especially affected with a spate of broken springs afflicting the steam fleet. On June 16 D1062 Western Courier (which was already covering for unavailable 37906) on the diesel turn was joined by 50044 Exeterwhich also had two return trips, whilst 50035 Ark Royal was used on ECS moves.
