WCR to fit ERTMS to Class 37s

Charter Train Operating Company West Coast Railways is planning to fit European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) signalling equipment to two of its Class 37s to allow it to operate on the Cambrian lines without being reliant on using Network Rail's Class 97s, the only other locos fitted with the system. Presently no loco-hauled train can travel west of Shrewsbury unless piloted or hauled by NR Class 97s. These locos are currently crewed exclusively by DB Schenker drivers based at Bescot. WCR is also understood to be having some of its drivers trained on the 97s.
