A programme to replace all the cab fronts of the Class 108s owned by the Dean Forest Railway is close to completion after Driving Motor Brake 51914 was moved into the shed. The Derby-built Class 108s were largely made or aluminium, but had steel cab fronts fitted to improve crashworthiness. These cab fronts have proved to be a problem in preservation, with corrosion above the windscreens and at the cab bottom being a particular issue. As a result, several railways have had new cab fronts pressed out of aluminium, which completely replaces the existing steelwork.
