Class 170/3s move to Chiltern

Transfer of Class 170/3s from TransPennine Express to Chiltern began during May with five units travelling to Brush Lough borough for refurbishment. The units were released at the start of the summer timetable and will be followed by the remaining four at the end of the year. 170301/302/304 were moved under their own power from Crofton maintenance depot on May 18 and were followed the next day by 170305/309. Once they are refurbished the units will be used for service enhancements and extensions on routes out of Marylebone. To cover for the loss of the Class 170s TPE now has a four-car Class 156 available daily from Northern which is being used on the Blackpool to Manchester Airport service. In turn Northern now has a loco-hauled diagram on the Cumbrian coast which is being worked by DRS Class 37s. This is the second major transfer for the Class 170/3 fleet as it was originally with South West Trains.
