Coal decline sees DBS locos stored

The rather steep drop off in coal traffic due to the coat burn tax introduced at the start of April and the large reserves of coal stockpiled beforehand, has left the movers of coal with a traction surplus. While Freightliner and GB Railfreight (apart from several of the new GBRf Class 66s which are stored/off lease pending an upturn in demand) have kept thrir fleets static, DB Schenker has moved quite a number of Class 60s and 66s into the WQAA storage pool. Most are undergoing maintenance/ exams and will be returning to traffic when fleet requirements increase later in the year. 60017/019/044/062/091 along with 66013/027/040/043/053/070 /077/090, 66103/114/118/121/187 have been stored in the WQAA pool, mostly at Toton. During the same review period 60001/074,66020/040/053/055/063, 66106/122/194 have been stored then reinstated while 66039/068, 66100/131/156/199 have been reinstated to traffic.
