The winner of the prestigious 'Railcar of the Year' award for 2016 is Class 108 50619 from the Dean Forest : Railway. Presented by the Railcar Association for the most outstanding DMU restoration effortof theyear, the award is for the speed and efficiency with which the 1958-built unit was rebuilt, with the owning group only having access to fairly primitive working conditions. The Driving Motor Brake had suffered severe front-end corrosion since being preserved in the early 1990s, but could not be spared from regular service for a prolonged length of time. As a result a completely new front end was fitted and the unit was returned to service in only a matter of months.
