The Brush Type 4, later becoming Class 47 under TOPS, has been involved in its fair share of collisions and derailments over the years, largely due to the size of the fleet and its operational sphere. Some fared better than others and the vast majority that did receive damage were repaired at Crewe Works and returned to service. However, there were four that were so badly damaged early on in their careers that withdrawal was the only option.
